Why foster?
Young people can come into foster care for so many reasons.
They come from all backgrounds, all faiths and with their own needs and experiences. Almost all will have suffered some type of neglect, trauma and/or abuse, and every one of them is in need of the security, warmth, care and support offered by Foster Carers.
Foster Carers are needed to give young people in care the opportunity to enjoy their childhood, to provide them with the security to ‘be themselves’, explore their skills and the experience of being carefree. Young people coming into care may not have been provided with a structured routine, a balanced and nourishing diet, appropriate clothing or the correct health care.
“For young people who’ve experienced fragmented and unpredictable home life, foster parents give them reassurance, reliability, stability and structure”
People become foster parents for a variety of different reasons, but one reason tends to surface time and again – people want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people. Some people foster because they want to use their experiences with their own children to be a good role model to foster children, too. Some foster parents haven’t been parents before but want to give their love and care to those who really need it. There’s a variety of reasons why fostering could be beneficial to you.
All of the Independent Fostering Services that have chosen UChoose2Foster to support them with their recruitment needs, focus on Therapeutic Fostering.
